15 noviembre 2007 – 10 febrero 2008 PARMIGIANINO | The Madonna at the Alte PinakothekParmigianino (1503-1540) was one of the outstanding masters of Italian High Renaissance. His contemporaries acclaimed him as the new Raphael. The fascination of the finely mannerist qualities of his painting remains unbroken to this day. In sensitively blended colours his inventive compositions portray graceful figures of ideal beauty. On occasions Parmigianino adopted a bold and open style of painting that demonstrated a lightness of touch. Usually, though, he refined his works to achieve the surface effect of finely differentiated brilliance of colour. The master painter, who worked in Parma, Rome and Bologna, repeatedly dedicated his work to the theme of the Virgin Mary and Child. Approximately half of his paintings that have been preserved to this day portray the Madonna – private devotional pictures as well as major altar pieces. The Alte Pinakothek has in its keeping a precious, small Madonna painting that is among the oldest pictures in the Wittelsbach Collection. For a long time it was held to be the work of Parmigianino, but then in the 19th century it was attributed to his pupil, Girolamo Mazzola Bedoli, However, new and hitherto unpublished research supports the traditional assessment that ascribed the work to the master. The exhibition assembles selected paintings and drawings by Parmigianino and Bedoli and on this basis addresses the issue of authorship, origin and painting technique of the Munich picture as well as its place within the entire body of Parmigianino’s works. direcciónAlte PinakothekKunstareal München Barer Strasse 27 80333 München fon +49 89 23 80 52 16 http://www.pinakothek.de horariosDaily 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., closed on Monday.descripción del Museo14th to 18th Century European PaintingThe Alte Pinakothek houses one of the world´s most important collections. On display are more than 800 paintings, among them numerous well-known masterpieces of 14th to 18th Century European painting. An exquisite collection of early Dutch painting including works by Rogier van der Weyden and Dieric Bouts can be found in close proximity to early German painting. This section includes Albrecht Dürer´s famous “Self Portrait” of 1500 and his “Four Apostles,” as well as masterpieces by Michael Pacher, Albert Altdorfer und Lucas Cranach. The scope and quality of Munich 's Flemish art collection, which includes works by Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordeans, makes it unique. The museums holdings also include the “Canigani Holy Family,” which was the first painting by Raphael to be brought to Germany . The Alte Pinakothek also boasts masterpieces by Titian and Tintoretto, Rembrandt and Frans Hals, Murillo and Velasquez, Chardin and Boucher. This superb and extensive collection makes it possible to explore the development of painting from the Middle Ages through to the end of the Rococo era. This art historical path is then continued through the 19th century with works displayed in the Neue Pinakothek and into the 20th century and contemporary times with works displayed in the Pinakothek der Moderne. The Alte Pinakothek owns the most extensive collection of old German painting (ex. Stefan Lochner, Albrecht Dürer, Albrecht Altdorfer, Cranach, Holbein, Matthias Grünewald, Michael Pacher, Hans von Aachen, Adam Elsheimer). |
