JOSEPHINE MECKSEPER

The New York-based German artist Josephine Meckseper (*1964) deals in her work with the themes of consumerism and commodity fetishism in modern society. Her shop window installations, in which she juxtaposes fashion accessories with regalia taken from left wing protest movements - such as the Palestinian kaffiyeh - are particularly impressive. Meckseper poses political, sociological and media-critical questions using subtle installations, photography and film. The exhibition in the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart will be Josephine Meckseper’s first large solo exhibition. Her works are already included in important collections such as the London Saatchi Collection and can regularly be seen in large exhibitions and con-temporary art biennales (Whitney Biennale 06).
In addition to important loans, the presentation will include new works by the artist, in which she responds to the special nature of the museum space.
