Having become known through magazine reportage concerning the club scene for lifestyle magazines such as "Tempo" or "ZEITmagazin" as well as through his fashion excursions for the London paper "i-D", Wolfgang Tillmans (born in 1968 in Remscheid) made a decisive contribution to the aesthetic of the 1990s. The spectrum of his photographs extends from still lifes and portraits by way of series and landscapes all the way to the new abstract pictures, which are created without a camera right in the darkroom. The kestnergesellschaft is now presenting the most recent works of this artist, who in 2000 as the first and, up to now, sole German artist and photographer was awarded the renowned British Turner Prize.
