Folding into Form - Masterpieces of Origami

some 200 works bring to life again the 2000 year old history of the Japanese art of folding paper into artistic forms

More than 50 artists from 16 countries present over 200 fascinating works folded out of paper, thus awakening to new life the 2000-year history of the ancient Japanese art of Origami. The exhibition affords a glimpse into the manifold forms taken by Origami internationally, as well as into the influence of the art of folding paper on science and design. Among the artists represented here are eminent figures such as Robert Lang (USA), Koshiro Hatori (JPN), Michael La Fosse (USA), Miri Golan and Paul Jackson (ISR).
Origami - usually regarded as the ancient Japanese tradition of folding paper - has blossomed into an impressive movement over recent decades. Creative and innovative Origami art has been produced: boldly abstract forms, structures of bewitching lightness and figures which seem to have been awakened to life by the folders. Scientists, mathematicians, architects, designers and educationalists all over the world draw their inspiration from Origami today.
With a programme of lectures and workshops for children as well as adults, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe wants to give visitors the opportunity to delve more deeply into aspects of this art form under the direction of experts, and to learn to be creative in folding paper themselves.
