15 mayo 2008 – 31 agosto 2008 The profane and the sacred - Jewels of ancient art from the Barbier-Mueller MuseumIn 2007, the Musée Barbier-Mueller celebrated its thirty years of existence. The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire has collaborated closely on several occasions with this Genevan institution, resulting in exhibitions such as La Création du Monde. Fernand Léger et l’art africain (2000) and Entre art et rituel. Boucliers de la collection Barbier-Mueller (1999). This new exhibit presents a collection of exceptional quality that was begun in the 1920s by Josef Mueller. It displays more than a hundred pieces chosen for their remarkable plastic qualities and which have never before been shown together as a group. Along with the publication that accompanies and completes it, the exhibition illustrates different antique civilizations through a historical panorama of art that begins in prehistoric times and subsequently covers the artistic productions of, among other periods and places, the Neolithic revolution, the Bronze and Iron Ages, Mediterranean Antiquity, Pharaonic Egypt and the Eurasian steppes.direcciónMusée d'art et d'histoireRue Charles-Galland 2 1206 Genève fon +41 22 418 22 00 http://www.ville-ge.ch/musinfo/mahg horariosDaily 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., closed on Monday.descripción del MuseoErected between 1903 and 1910 and designed as an encyclopedic museum, it covers the whole of western culture, from its origins to the present days. The three sectors of the museum comprise Archaeology (prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, Roman); Fine Arts (some 400 paintings from the Renaissance to modern times, and sculptures by artists such as Houdon, Pradier, Rodin, Arp, Giacometti, Tinguely, etc.); Applied Arts (objects from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, such as furniture, textiles, pewterware, arms and armor). |
