14 marzo 2008 – 26 octubre 2008 From the Alps to Lake Geneva - Images of prehistoric timesWith a focus on the ways of life led by the prehistoric communities of the Rhone valley and the shores of Lake Geneva, this exhibition will present successively the hunter-gatherers who from around 12,000 B.C. initially colonised the areas freed by retreating glaciers, the first Neolithic crop farmers, the development – thanks to Alpine copper deposits – of an original civilization during the Bronze Age and finally the emergence of a Celtic society whose last exploits were described by Julius Caesar in 58 B.C. The display presents a selection of objects from the collections of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire and the Musées Cantonaux d’Archéologie (Archeology Museums) of Lausanne and Sion. Their contexts are situated through a series of large illustrations showing our ancestors’ different lifestyles, based on the most up-to-date theories and studies. In this way, exhibition visitors will be able to discover the bonds that at various times linked the prehistoric populations living in the area from Brig to Geneva.direcciónMusée d'art et d'histoireRue Charles-Galland 2 1206 Genève fon +41 22 418 22 00 http://www.ville-ge.ch/musinfo/mahg horariosDaily 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., closed on Monday.descripción del MuseoErected between 1903 and 1910 and designed as an encyclopedic museum, it covers the whole of western culture, from its origins to the present days. The three sectors of the museum comprise Archaeology (prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, Roman); Fine Arts (some 400 paintings from the Renaissance to modern times, and sculptures by artists such as Houdon, Pradier, Rodin, Arp, Giacometti, Tinguely, etc.); Applied Arts (objects from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, such as furniture, textiles, pewterware, arms and armor). |
