Marc Bauer - History of Masculinity V : Epilogue

Our first exhibitions for 2007 will be devoted to two artists who are mainly specialised in drawing. In the big hall, the exhibition on the Swiss artist Marc Bauer shall gather his whole cycle History of Masculinity, divided into five chapters which he created over the last two years. The human figure is represented in extreme postures, revealing an alternatively latent or exacerbated violence. The subjects of Marc Bauer's drawings are often related to his own life, either by means of personal childhood memories or of family accounts. He often mingles his personal story with painful episodes of History, especially in his representations of dictators (Mussolini, Pinochet), supported by archival photographic evidence. His portraits condensate the characteristic features of his subjects with striking expressive power.
